I ain’t mad at February

March 1, 2023 by April Trepagnier 4 Comments

If you didn’t happen to see January’s recap, this is what is going on.

February was an interesting example of a few things I often lose sight of – balance and grace being the top two.

I almost put discipline up there. And time management. Except that’s one of the things I am leaving in February 2023 – the idea that I am undisciplined or have poor time management skills.

One of the epiphanies from the month is that I still (and it pisses me off) carry around the judgements, ideas, opinions, whatever of others as if they are my own. I have become quite capable of shrugging off these types of whatever from people who I do not know well. Really, why would I carry that shit around.

It is those who are closest to you, or at least appropriately distanced as to know, who harbor opinions that, upon further reflection, they really should know better than. It is in those ideas that I have held on to the possibility that I may lack discipline or need a better time management system. As of March 1, 2023, I now firmly disagree, and I feel much better for it. I’ll explain more in a bit.

Here is my February

  • 17 active days (-3)
  • 33 workouts (-5)
  • 17.5 hours of time dedicated (+.5)
  • 5855 calories burned (+28)
  • 137.67 Peloton miles (-15.83)
  • 56,449 Tonal weights moved (+14,192)
  • averaged 7 hours of sleep a night (=)
  • averaged 6,292 steps a day (+592)
  • averaged 60 ounces of water a day (=)

I did not make movement on any of my intentions for the month:

  • 100% active days
  • increase stretching
  • increase water
  • more outdoor workouts

Interestingly, I am not all that upset about the things I didn’t accomplish when I look at the things that I have. I suppose it would be real easy to get down on myself and join in with all the other internal/external critics. But I won’t.

Instead, I am going to tell you that I took 7 days off in February (for context, this includes weekend days as I don’t really have a traditional calendar that differentiates between weekends and weekdays). I am appreciative of every one of those days. I spent quality time with family and friends and made memories that I would not trade for the world.

I did not let the pursuit of the great sacrifice the achievement of the good.

My schedule, contrary to what some might think, does not leave a lot of room for days off. Therefore, the days on are a little longer, and a little more intense. As I mentioned last month, historically, on those days, my fitness routine would be the first thing to get the ax. I did not do that this month. I made myself and my health a priority. Some days the Peloton was coupled with reading and the Tonal with a video a lecture. When this happens, my workout may not be as strong as it would be otherwise. But I did not let the pursuit of the great sacrifice the achievement of the good.

And, I have intentions for March

  • Remember who I am
  • Complete the Peloton Build Your Power Zones program
  • Complete the Tonal Training Camp program
  • Finish my undergraduate thesis
  • Track my water, food, and sleep
  • Register for my first Masters Program semester
  • Remember who I am

Yeah, it is always a work in progress. And, I am here for it.

xoxo,

My key takeaway, “Remember who I Am!” The first
Two months of the year were a complete blur. I spent the last week of February planning, cleansing in preparation to not repeat another road of shame, failure and disappointment. Life can be hard but I have to choose that hard. March is going to be great and I am forever thankful for your blog. Always right on time! Thank you! 💜💜
Also, I had to write this one down. “Don’t let the pursuit of the great sacrifice the achievement of the good.”

“Choose the hard” I LOVE that!! You’ve got me thinking now…Can I be grateful for hard? And, I know instinctively that I can…but I am gonna have to noodle it a bit because I know there is something more there. Thank you for always being a force for positive dynamics!
